STRATFORD · TN FIELD GUIDE

Can a Stratford biologist rely on years of hatchery experience instead of a degree for TN?

THE DIRECT ANSWER

No. The Biologist entry in Appendix 2 requires a baccalaureate or licenciatura degree, and it provides no alternative route through experience. Experience is useful for showing that the applicant fits the role, but it cannot stand in place of the credential the listed profession demands.

Each listed occupation has its own rule, and they are not interchangeable

The single most common error in this area is assuming that because one profession on the list accepts experience, all of them do. They do not. The scientist entries, Biologist among them, are written around a degree.

A few occupations elsewhere on the list are deliberately drafted otherwise, which is why an adviser will ask which entry is being claimed before asking anything about the applicant. For Marguerite the answer is straightforward once the question is put in the right order: she holds the degree, so the requirement is met, and the fourteen years then do the separate job of showing that the hatchery's position genuinely calls for a biologist. Two findings are needed in every case, one about the person and one about the position, and a letter that blurs them makes both harder to reach.

Where an applicant genuinely lacks the degree, the honest next step is to test whether a differently drafted entry fits the work, not to argue the point at a counter.
