Cornwall: which Gold Card records should I keep, and is a news article one of them?

THE DIRECT ANSWER

Collect records that prove the real transaction, role, relationship, and timeline rather than polished summaries alone.

GOLD-CARD planning question: documents

Keep a dated copy of the official programme page, FAQ, instructions, and any receipt or correspondence supplied through the official process. Alongside those materials, assemble identity documents, passports, relationship records for proposed family members, and the evidence required by the current eligibility framework. Hypothetical example: a person saves a marketing article, a bank statement, and a payment estimate.

Those are not a complete case file. The record needs the actual official terms, a clear payment-source trail, and any criteria-specific documentation. If the framework refers to EB-1 or EB-2, collect material responsive to the relevant standard rather than assuming the label itself supplies proof.

Do not forge a connection by borrowing documents from an unrelated business or family proposal. Create an index that gives each record a date, issuer, purpose, and relationship to the next record. Where a document is translated, preserve the original and the translation in the required form.

Reconcile names, account numbers, addresses, entity names, and dates before submitting anything. An unexplained inconsistency can distract from otherwise strong evidence. Avoid altering historical records to make a file neater; a transparent explanation is safer than a manufactured appearance of continuity.

Keep copies of final versions and receipts so later questions can be answered from the same factual record. Current official forms and filing instructions should be checked close to the relevant process because a well-organized older package can still use obsolete requirements.
